Reformer or Mat Pilates does not use weights. Rather, it emphasizes body weight and motion control as resistance. As a result of these controlled motions the patient is able to achieve greater full body strength, mental focus, body awareness, flexibility, muscle tone, and energy.
Pilates emphasizes movements requiring the use of core muscles – the deep abdominal muscles, buttock muscles, and muscles closest to the spine.
