Westwood Physical Therapy has developed Injury Prevention Programs that have helped countless athletes prepare for athletic competition and reduce their risk of injury. These programs consist of a detailed evaluation of muscle strength, flexibility, functional movements, gait and posture. The information gathered during the evaluation will be used in designing a program to correct strength imbalances and movement flaws. Our injury prevention programs include evidence-based techniques for pain management, restoring joint range of motion, improving flexibility, increasing muscular tone and strength and sports-specific training.
These injury screenings can be made available to local fitness clubs, golf and other social clubs and local employers.
ACL Injury Prevention Program
Research has shown that an ACL prevention program can reduce the risk of injury by up to 90%. Our ACL program has been designed based on the results of a 2-year clinical prevention trial among NCAA female soccer players.
ACL prevention programs work by retraining the nervous and muscle systems to be more efficient and, as a result, reduce the potential for non-contact ACL tears.
The program includes 5 components:
- Flexibility exercises to optimize muscle length
- Proper running technique analysis and instruction
- Lower extremity strengthening exercises
- Plyometrics: explosive exercises to build power, strength and speed
- Agility training
