Sports Taping

Therapeutic Sports Taping
There are two taping techniques commonly used in conjunction with physical therapy: McConnell Taping and Kinesio Taping.

McConnell Taping
McConnell taping is a bracing or strapping technique commonly used to treat patellofemoral pain, shoulder subluxation, low back pain, foot pain and hip impingement. The McConnell technique works by affecting and improving the biomechanics of the affected joint and providing neuromuscular re-education.

Kinesio Taping

“Kinesio Taping® uses a more flexible tape and is effective, safe and easy-to-use.  Once instructed by a professional you may be able to tape yourself at home.  Kinesio Taping® works by alleviating pain and facilitating lymphatic drainage by lifting the skin.  The taped potion forms small convolutions in the skin thus increasing interstitial space.  This results in pressure and irritation being removed from the neural and sensory receptors.  It also stimulates the lymphatic drainage system allowing it to work more effectively.

Kinesio Taping® can also be used to encourage a weak muscle to contract or an over-used muscle to relax.
Kinesio® Tex Tape provides muscular support through full range of motion, therefore, enabling the individual to participate in physical activity with the functional assistance provided by the tape.”
